Within Antigone, many of the characters’ stubbornness contributing to the major conflict could have easily been handled differently. Because of this, one ended up dead and another lost everyone he loved. Ismene, Antigone’s sister, remained alive but only because of fear of being punished. It is sometimes unnecessary qualities like being head strong that lead to no one gaining triumph in the end. Because two willful people were both standing up for what they believed in, neither won the battle.
Antigone and Ismeme comparison Antigone and Ismene have differences. Sisters usually have at least a few things in common and can help one another. Ismene and Antigone are a bit different from other sisters. They have a boat load of differences and a few similarities. Antigone and Ismene both cared about their brothers.
Antigone being the niece of Creon and two brothers but one of them has been killed. King Creon declared that no one should bury the body but Antigone went against the decree and buried her brother. Creon was a stubborn and a Tragic Hero with flaws and also with a tragic past in the play. Although Antigone herself shows some parts of being a Tragic hero, Creon stands out more of his personality and that he is not good but not bad either. Antigone stands up to her uncle and points out the things he has done wrong and tries to show her reasoning of burying her own brother.
In a certain way, the conflict was generated by the confrontation of two people who believed to be powerful. Creon saw himself as the new ruler of Thebes and he created a new image and became an arrogant and very self-centered person. For example, when Creon was arguing with Haem, he said to his son “will my subjects tell me how to rule” (834) , he also said "And I am guilty, then, Claiming due reverence for my sovereignty?” (852-3). These statements clearly show that Creon believed that being a new ruler gave him a new position over everyone; he thought that nobody could be against him or his rules.
When Ismene tries to convince Antigone not to bury Polynices, she says, "We 're underlings, ruled by much stronger hands" (76). In saying that they are "ruled by much stronger hands" , Ismene implies that men are stronger than and have authority over women. She fails to take action because she is fearful of man 's authority. However, she later contradicts this view when she says "I 'm not ashamed / to sail through trouble with you" (607-608). Ismene is willing to endure this ordeal with Antigone.
Two marbles in Different Piles Because of the ways that characters are developed in both Antigone and “The Game,” they are very similar, yet different, seen throughout the whole plays. To start, the two plays are alike with their dramatic point of view, however the feelings and directions in Antigone are almost non-existent,especially evident during the tensest moments of both play. In Antigone this idea is seen during the finale of the tragedy when Haimon kills himself, with Haimon’s death being narrated as,“ 'He said not a word, Staring— And suddenly drew his sword And lunged. Creon shrank back, the blade missed; and the boy, Desperate against himself, drove it...
To begin with, Ismene could be eliminated from “Antigone” because she does not affect the story a lot. In line 53, Ismene says to Antigone “You’d bury him when a law forbids the city?”. She only tries to convince Antigone to not bury Polynices, but she does it anyways. Without Ismene, Antigone would have still buried Polynices. Ismene is a character in the story that would not affect the story if he were to disappear.

According the Huffingtonpost.com, the autonomous vehicles will replace taxi drivers. Uber, Google and Tesla are already working on the complete driverless autonomous cars. Uber is openly planning to replace human drivers with self driving cars. This will disrupt the transportation and other industries directly and indirectly. There would be many job losses in the GTA if Uber replaces the taxi industry by self driving cars.
When Antigone tells her sister, Ismene, her intention to bury their brother against the orders of their uncle, Ismene states that she will “. . . obey the men in charge. My mind / Will never aim too high, too far” (pg. 3). Antigone is a stark contrast to Ismene, who wishes to stay within the bounds of traditional society by staying obedient and submissive to men. Antigone has her own mind however, and is not afraid to make her own decisions.
In the Greek tragic drama, Antigone, by Sophocles Ismene is a foil of her sister. There are many characteristics that exhibit this, such as, Ismene’s lack of courage, how she chooses to follow civil laws over the laws of the gods, and finally, how Ismene cannot stand up for herself. There are many instances in the play where these traits are are exhibited. One way that Ismene is a foil of Antigone is because she lacks courage.
The way a person thinks can lead to the way they act. Which is why ideology is the starting point for courage. At a first glance, Ideology is the common sense that is shared among members of a community and it can help people, muster courage. That is why ideology plays a key role in helping people to rise above any situation that may lay heavy on a person or animals’ mind or heart, whether it's mentally, physically, or spiritually. Which is exactly what happens in Martin Luther King Jr speech I’ve Been to the Mountaintop and in Sophocles’, Antigone.
In the story, the relationship between Antigone and Creon is very important and contrasts greatly. If they had found a way to resolve their differences, the story may have ended differently. The tension between these two characters is based on Creon’s actions and thoughts in regard to Antigone’s brothers and the brother she buried. Creon left Polyneices, her brother, to rot outside of the city. He commanded that if anyone buried Polyneices, they would be put to death.
Ismene has an internal conflict for not trying to help her sister when first asked, which is the reason for her trying to take some blame in the acts Antigone had done. Antigone and Ismene are both to be put to death but Creon relents on the executing off Ismene. Before Creon did so, Ismene is scorned by Antigone for her late attempt for trying to be righteous. Ismene has always believed in loyalty and has always been loyal to her family. Even though she made a late decision and it is rejected by Antigone she is still loyal to her family by offering her help after she denied it to Antigone the first
Ismene trembles in feat because her life could also be in danger for being the sister of Antigone. Throughout all the family drama if Antigone dies Ismene will be the only descendant from Oedipus alive. Ismene is worried and says, “Antigone I am so afraid for you” (3) because she knows Antigone will die soon. Ismene tells Antigone to be intelligent about her actions and not eager to respond to situations.
