Issues in factual programming. Introduction What is factual programming? Factual programming is a program containing facts that delivers factual information in an entertaining way so the viewer can learn whilst watching television and being entertained, this is beneficial because it gives the viewer's more of a reason to watch the show especially if the show is about recent events for example there were documentary's about the twin towers on the anniversary of it happening, or documentaries about wildlife which are popular as they teach about the wildlife while providing very interesting and entertaining information People who make factual programmes have to consider certain issues such as: Accuracy Accuracy is how accurate the factual programme …show more content…

Sometimes professional writers will be asked not to approach or ask questions on suspects if they feel that any answers they may give could possibly (irritate/make worse) an (act of asking questions and trying to find the truth about something). An easy way to tell if the story ignores and disrespects someone's privacy too much would be to imagine yourself in their position, would you want people knowing information about your life to the extent it is showed/represented? Most true TV programmes try to remain away from someone's personal life if they feel it may just be for the public to read about but doesn't affect them directly, however, sometimes professional writers will go to any extent and ignore and disrespect someone's personal privacy in anyway possible to get the best possible story. For example, the News Of The World were part of a phone hacking (shameful and disgraceful act or situation) where they gained illegal access to a missing girl's voicemail, listening to her messages and collecting information they would later turn into a report. They continuously came up with new stories for their newspapers and reporters and no one knew or could understand where they were getting such exact information from. Family members were suggesting someone was dishonest (in a way that ruins your trust) and were selling the press information. The News Of The World then went as far as deleting messages from her voicemail that were blocking new messages from coming through, leading the police to believe she was still alive and putting a false sense of hope in the family.
