Graham once said that “… it is impossible to go through life without trust.” This means that people have to trust each other to grow in life. I agree with this statement because people place faith in others people will have stronger relationships. Two works of literature that support this quote are Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The plot of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn involves with the protagonist Huck, who attempts to escape the oppressive and cruel society. The novel takes place along the banks of the Mississippi river in the 1800s, before the civil war. Huck meets Jim, who is Miss Watson’s runaway slave. Jim trust Huck not to turn him in. Huck and Jim were able to survive the dangerous waters and prejudice at this time. They show that friendship based on trust can survive the greatest hardships. The plot of To kill a Mockingbird involves with Jem’s father Atticus who is a prominent lawyer. He has to defend Tom Robinson who is black and that case was controversial at that time. This novel takes place Macomb County in Alabama during the 1930s. Atticus has to prove Tom’s innocence to his best ability to defend him. If he did not take this case he could not live with himself and could not go back to his family. Tom trusts him because he knows that he will do his best even though they knew that they were going to lose. This was a step forward to get rid of prejudice. This novel expresses that trusting someone can get through even during the hardships. The line in the book "Shoot, all the blue jays you want, but remember it’s a sin to kill mockingbird" is referring to the black man in the story, Tom. He symbolizes a mockingbird because all mockingbirds do is sing for our enjoyment and stay out of harm’s way, so if you kill them it’s a sin.
