Is it O.K for men and boys to comment on women and girls in the street?

I truthfully think it depends on the comment. While a man going up to a woman and saying something along the lines of “Hey, I like your necklace!” Is acceptable and friendly, a man going up to a woman and saying, “Hey, nice boobs!” Is gross and unacceptable. In this essay I’ll be going over the reasons why I think men “catcall”, what kind of effect it has in woman, and the steps we can take from stopping people from catcalling.

First off, why? I think one of the biggest reasons men catcall is to impress their friend. Going back to what I said earlier, if a man told a woman that he liked his necklace that may be considered cheesy or “gay” by his friends. But when a man yells “Hey, nice boobs!” the friends will most likely join in and laugh about what was said.
