The murders of more than 7 backpackers in New South Wales (NSW, Australia during the 1990s, were committed by one of Australia's notorious serial killers, Ivan Milat. Ivan was born on the 27th December 1944 at Guildford, NSW, Australia into a large family. The bodied of seven missing young missing backpackers from different parts of the world were discovered in a shallow grave in the Belanglo State Forest. Five of the bodies that were found were foreign backpackers visiting Australia from Germany,3, and Britain,2. The other two victims were Australian travelers from Melbourne. Paul was a British tourist who admitted to police that in 1990 he had accepted a ride from a driver, after a while of driving, the driver pulled out a gun from the glove box of the vehicle, as Onions got out of the car and started running the driver continued to fire shots at him. Fortunately for the Australian police, Onions was able to identify the driver from photographs that the police had shown him of the driver and Onion's was able to remember the vehicle. Arrest Of Milat Arrest on the 22nd May 1944 the NSW police carried out seven dawn raids on various properties, taking only three men into custody. One of the men arrested was 49 Year-old Ivan Milat. Milat was charged with armed robbery and discharging a firearm; Milat was later charged with the murders of the seven victims found murdered in the Belanglo State Forest. Out of the three men arrest, one was Ivan Milat's brother, Walter. During the dawn raids the NSW police had found a 22 Caliber rifle, that was an exact match to the type of gun that had been used in the backpacker murders, the police believed that to be too much of a coincidence so Walter was also arrest for questioning, but never charged with
