Abstract The purpose of this research is to identify a publicly traded organization that I would be interested in recommending a social responsibility project to. I will research the organization of my choice through several sources and investigate the company’s mission and vision statement. I will also examine the company’s code of ethics to determine what would be a good fit for the company as a social responsibility project. Social accountability or responsibility means a company will be handle itself in a positive manner ethically, socially, culturally, economically, and environmentally. Penney Company, Inc. The reason I chose J.C. Penney is because it is a well-known store that has a wide selection of services to choose from that would offer great opportunities to do social responsibility projects. J.C. Penney Company, Inc. J.C. Penney Company, Inc. is one of the largest stores in our nation that carries a wide selection of items from clothing, shoes, jewelry, home furnishing, and cosmetics. Their selection of clothing and shoes is very diverse making it suitable for people of different size, with different fashion styles, and with different income brackets. Their merchandize can be purchased not only in stores nationwide but also on their website at www.jcpenney.com . J.C. Penney serves customers from old to young, skinny, plus size, men, women, little boys and little girls. History JC Penney was opened in 1902 in Kemmerer, WY as a dry goods store by James Cash Penney. Associates are rewarded for their contributions and skills that they bring to the company. With integrity they are required to act solely with the very best moral standards. They are given coaching and feedback so that they may perform at their very best. Their performance is then recognized and celebrated with others. With teamwork the entire company wins because of the collaboration of leadership and open and honest communication. Quality means that they reach for the best in their work, and in the products and services that they offer. From quality comes the innovation where the employees are encouraged to explore in their creative thinking and take some intelligent risks. The last principle is community whereas a company they are involved and care about their communities (JC Penney Inc, 2013). Because of the values that the company holds made me want to pick them for this project.
