He was influenced to write about Catcher in The Rye because he was impacted when stationed for 3 months in a little town called Devon.The sights and Sounds of Devon influenced him to write. He started to create the main character Holden Caulfield; as he began to create Holden he started to embed his trauma and his wartime experience on Holden.Another reason that Salinger started to write Catcher in The Rye was to point out that in his era the 50s was the time when things were going wrong.He wanted to open people's eyes;help them realize that there was a need to change.
