J.R.R. Tolkien is one of the most well known/liked author’s of modern literature, he has written several books that as a series has made him a very famous author. Tolkien was born on January 3, 1892 in Bloemfontein South Africa, his childhood was mostly forgotten by him at his own admittance but several things in his childhood he remembered due to their vivid and rather ghastly nature for example he distinctly remembered an encounter with a large hairy spider. Aside from this his childhood was mostly average that is until the 15th of February 1896 when his father died after this his mother, little brother and himself moved to England. After yet another move to a much more peaceful place in a Birmingham suburb something major happened Tolkien's mother along with family from both his mother’s and father’s side was accepted into a Roman Catholic church. After their acceptance Tolkien and his brother Hilary were raised as devout Catholics for the remainder of their life after this a priest by the name of Father Francis Morgan or Father Morgan who was half Welsh and half Spanish regularly visited the family. Tolkien and his family lived in slight poverty which was strongly impacted by Mable Tolkien's mother being diagnosed with diabetes which in a time with no insulin proved to be fatal for all who had the illness. Mabel Tolkien died on the 14th of November 1904 after her death Father Morgan Looked after the two orphaned boys for a short time but eventually they were boarded with their aunt Beatrice Suffield unfortunately for the boys she was less than sympathetic for their loss. By this time Tolkien was showing great skill in the linguistic arts seeing as he had mastered Greek, Latin, Finnish and Gothic although the latter two were a little while later. After regaining some strength he was allowed to stay with Edith it was also christmas by this time which was a nice holiday away from the war. Like all good things unfortunately his holiday had to end, upon arriving on the front again he found that all but one of his close friends had been killed in the last few months of 1916. With great tragedy though comes great feats although all but one of his close friends were dead he soldiered on with his writing even under artillery fire it was in these nights of being hunkered in a dugout that he wrote of dwarves, elves, hobbits and goblins and the wars in which they fought. Later on between 1917 and 1918 his trench fever continued to crop up which had him removed from the front and placed in camps back in england which still allowed he to reach the rank of 1st lieutenant while at home he and Edith spent time together walking and such by this time his first son had been born on the 16th of November 1917. Finally after four years of brutal visceral combat ended with the signing of an armistice on November 11th 1918 he suddenly found himself without work.
