In all types of war, every individual will have either a positive or a negative emotion or feeling. Most of the time, the individual will leave war with a negative influence that will cause them struggles or stress in the long run. One war that has influenced many people is World War Two. The soldiers who come back from war usually had new ideas on individuals that can change their perspective on human dignity. For example, William Golding fought in World War Two, and he gained ideas and themes that would influence his writing. These ideas are not necessarily positive ideas but created the book Lord of the Flies, because he thought that humans are naturally evil because of their conflicting impulses towards civilization. Jack is an example of Golding’s view on every individual being a savage because of his change in behavior. One situation that proves Jack’s animalistic behavior is when he hunts the pig. Hunting for food is a way of survival, but Jack took the idea too far by smearing the blood on his face and having a reenactment of the kill by his followers. On the other hand, Ralph is the counterexample of becoming a savage, because his attitude towards dignity and respect stays the same. After the plane crashes on the island, Ralph immediately takes charge and forms rules with the members of the plane who has survived. This action proves that Ralph respects individuals and wants them to survive the island by sticking together with rules. Overall, these two characters change or stay the same due to situations on the island. Just like the characters, William Golding went through changes and gained these ideas of savagery due to situations in World War Two. World War Two is not the only war that influences individuals with new ideas or negative impacts.
