The Great American Author
Most great American authors do not change the history of the style of writing or influence other authors to write the way they do. Jack London is not your typical American author. His styles and topics of writing do not compare to other authors. He has set a precedent for all American authors in the future. Although, his childhood was not the best, he continues to astonish many others, along with inspiring them as well.
John Griffith Chaney, better known as Jack London, was born on January 12, 1876 in San Francisco, California. London’s main reasons for writing was about telling others of his political beliefs and his journeys in the South Seas (London). He is best known for his book “The Call of the Wild”, which was written about his political views and his accounts in Canada during the gold rush. He ended up marrying Bess Madden and had two daughters, Bess and Joan. A few years past and he divorced his wife to marry Charmian Kittredge and stayed with her until he dies at the age of 40 with Kidney disease on November 22, 1916 at his ranch in California. He has put his own political views in his writing which was very uncommon back in London’s days. His writings have inspired many authors to write like London, such as George Orwell. Some people are starting to recognize “The Call of the Wild” as “...one of America's most enduring classics” (Napierkowski 52). His works are starting to become more and more popular as time goes on. In fact, Jack London was in the top 100 writers of the 20th century (Lundberg). He is still making his mark on history even after 101 years after his death.
