I picked “To Build a Fire”, because I thought this story was hopeful. But that was different to my expectation. “To Build a Fire” is a short story written by Jack London. It was published in the Century Magazine in 1908. Jack shows threat of death in this story. Milne (2000) explained the following: In particular, they focus on the way in which London uses repetition and precise description to emphasize the brutal coldness and unforgiving landscape of the Northland, against which the inexperienced protagonist, accompanied only by a dog, struggles unsuccessfully to save himself from freezing to death after a series of mishaps. I don’t like this story very much. I like a story with a happy ending, but this story come to tragic end. I don’t
