Jack is not a competent leader since he is immature, ignorant and irrational considering he can not make important decisions for himself and others. He shows throughout the book his crude decision making by doing many things. In the examples provided below, it is obvious that Jack should not be in charge of other people when he can not even sort things out for himself. Jack is very irrational throughout the book. In the beginning Jack was somewhat tolerable except for ordering his “choir” around while barking commands like “Choir! Stand still!” (Golding 20). It gets out of control in around chapter five. This shows he will treat people like animals if he could have some sort of way to be in control. For the rest of the book, Jack is still consistently making irrational decisions such as trying to kill Ralph multiple times by attempting to stab “at Ralph’s chest with his spear” (Golding …show more content…

When Jack was called out for letting the fire burn out he simply deflected and started making fun of Piggy, such as calling him “fatty”, mocking him and smacking “Piggy’s head” (Golding 71) . This ends up with Piggy’s specs being broken, which are very important to the survival of Piggy and others. It is sad to see how Jack responded to this by calling names and acting like a five year old instead of owning up for what he did by just apologizing, moving on and fixing his mistake. It is very obvious that he can not handle not getting his way considering how he is so persistent with being in charge and not paying any attention to the rules created by others. (Golding 90-91). These show how emotionally underdeveloped Jack is and how he should not make rules that others should respect, when he will not respect the other ones that he does not agree
