There is one major difference between homicide and suicide. According to the text, homicide occurs when an individual cause the death of another individual. This could be accidental or intentional, depending on the circumstances of the crime scene. On the other hand, suicide is where an individual decides to take their own life. The person could have developed a disorder and acted impulsively due to excessive stress. There are several obstacles that an investigator must overcome when determining if a suicide is a homicide. First, observe the position of the body. Second, look for any injuries on the deceased. Third, search for physical evidence that shows there was a struggle. The word “ripper” means that Jack forces the abdomens of his victims to be mutilated. Police reports show that Jack’s victims are most likely female prostitutes that have their throats cut before they are dismembered. Some of his victims include Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman and Elizabeth Stride. At that time, police investigators concluded that the murderer might be a butcher or doctor because they have experience in what they were doing on their victims. In the end, police officers were brought to a dead end and failed to reveal the true identity of the Ripper killer. This homicide case was controversial because there was no end to the murders and the police investigators were at a loss on what to do. One problem in “Jack the Ripper” case would be lack of evidence. In my opinion, homicides are more difficult to solve than other crimes.
