On December 23, 1981, Thomas Sophonow, a Canadian man, was wrongfully accused of murder. 16 year old Barbara Stoppel was ruthlessly killed at the washroom of her workplace. Unfortunately, eyewitnesses mistakenly chose Mr. Sophonow as being the murderer. Eye witnesses stated that a man, whose appearance was very similar to that of Thomas Sophonow, locked the door and made his way to the back of the shop where he was presumed to have strangled Barbara Stoppel to death. Furthermore, while Thomas Sophonow was in custody, he showed an undercover officer a door locking technique.

On January 2, 1981, Peter Sutcliffe’s killing spree was finally brought to an end. Officers of the Sheffield Police Department in South Yorkshire caught Sutcliffe in a car with fake license plates. He had a prostitute, 24-year-old Olivia Reivers, in the car with him when he was caught. The police arrested him and he was brought to the Dewsbury Police Station. While in custody, the police questioned Sutcliffe about the Yorkshire Ripper case, since he looked similar to the drawing of the killer (Sohrabi-Shiraz).
The night of September 30, 1988, the serial killer known as Jack the Ripper committed not one, but two murders. The Case Between 1975 and 1981 a man who became known as the ‘Yorkshire Ripper’ left at least 23 children motherless when he brutally murdered more than a dozen women in the North of England, and attempted to murder seven more. The victims were mostly prostitutes, but some were just ordinary girls (O 'Gara, 2006). The search for the ‘Ripper’ was one of the biggest investigations ever undertaken by a British police force and pre-dated the use of computers (Yorkshire Ripper, 2013). The killer wrote about 700 letters. The first letter was one known as ‘Dear Boss’, which arrived on September 27th, 1888. The letter signed off with “Yours truly, Jack the Ripper.” Up until that point the killer had been known variously as the "Red Fiend", "The Whitechapel Murderer," and "Leather Apron. Ted Bundy was a notorious serial murderer who’s reign of terror lasted from 1974 to 1978. Bundy was convicted of three homicides and was sentenced to death for all three charges. However, at the time of his execution, Bundy confessed to 30 murders however the exact number of victims is still unknown. Bundy’s crimes evolved over time but he was both a sexual sadist and a necrophiliac serial killer. At the beginning of his rampage, Bundy would sneak into the victims house in the middle of the night, violently attack them while they were sleeping with a blunt object and then Bundy would usually sexually assault them.
2. The East Area Rapist is believed to have committed at least 12 murders and 51 rapes and a host of other crimes that terrorized California in the 1970s and 1980s (Egel, 2018). He broke in, tied up, raped, bludgeoned, and shot his victims. On multiple occasions, he piled dishes on the individual in the home who he was not going to sexually assault (husband, mother) and instructed them not to move or he would kill them both.
