The name came from a letter mad by someone saying they he is the murderer that was extensively written about in the media. The document is generally thought to have been fraud, and could have been printed by journalists in an effort to intensify curiosity in the article and increase their newspaper 's spread. Within the crime case records as well as concurrent editorial accounts as the killer was named "the Whitechapel Murderer" as well as "Leather Apron".
