Jackie Robinson was a well-known baseball player that changed the world and the foundation of baseball in April of 1947. He became the first African American to play for the national baseball team and changed the respect of African Americans. He had many accomplishments during his life and faced many challenges throughout. Jackie Robinson is one of the best-known people for changing the world for the better. Jackie Robinson was born January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia. His family hadn’t had the finest lives growing up. For example, his grandparents had lived their lives being slaves and his parents farmed land as sharecroppers. Jackie was the youngest of five children, so food was scarce. Jackie went through a lot to change the world thinking even the slightest thing would make an impact. Robinson had the right idea. 69 years ago on April 15th, he changed the world. Blacks and whites could share schools, restaurants, stores, or even live in the same neighborhood. He started out playing his first professional baseball game with the Negros in 1945. A couple days after Franklin Roosevelt had passed, Branch Rickey, an American Baseball player for the Dodgers, approached him asking if he would be willing to play for the dodgers. Although Jackie knew the hatred he’d get and the large impact he would have, he agreed to do it and changed the foundation of baseball worldwide (Justice). “Jackie Robinson’s impact was greater than just that of baseball. He was a transforming agent and in the face of such hostility and such unkindness and violence, he did it with amazing dignity. He had to set the course for the country,” say the Rev.
