Athletes have been around for many years and generations. Children have once dreamed about being Serena Williams, Jackie Robinson, or some other athlete. Parents often consider of how their children should be reacting about the players. Should athletes be what kids should have yen for. Players go through a lot of work and time invested in their sport, especially if they are playing college or a professional level. During college, the athletes must be diligent and wise in their thinking in order to achieve and maintain good grades. Being a professional athlete has many benefits students do not receive. Robinson was a young black baseball player. He was the first man to break the color barrier within professional baseball. He signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 and was one of the primary players to impact the Dodgers to win the World Series in 1955. Robinson faced many hard times when he first was recruited and began playing on the major league fields. People would curse him and even threaten to harm or kill him and his family. He was a brave and valiant man for what he faced and how he faced it. Robinson responded to these difficulties with grace, humility, and wisdom. He changed baseball history! Jackie Robinson was a major role model to many little African American boys as well as other other American boys at that time. His jersey number was 42 which is the first retired number in the history of baseball still to this day. Aaron Murray is a current role model for kids. He was a Georgia quarterback from 2009-2013. Murray was recruited to Georgia in 2009 and was redshirted the first year. Murray and Georgia's head coach, Mark Richt, grew really close in friendship. Richt treated Murray as his own son. Additionally, Murray was a positive Christian influence to children. He broke the SEC career passing yard touchdown in 2013. Reportedly, Kershaw is now the highest paid professional baseball player (Kraft). He and his wife Ellen founded a charity program in 2011 called the Kershaw's Challenge. The Kershaw Challenge is a Christ-centered program that helps physically and mentally needy children. There are locations in America, Africa, and the Dominican Republic. The Kershaws demonstrate child advocacy by sharing the love of Christ and meeting their needs through their non-profit charity (Kershaw). Talented athletes can be positive role models by demonstrating their strengths they are given by God. Christian athletes can show the love and affection through Christ in playing with excellence.
