Blacks, baseball, and exciting are some words that some people think of when someone says the name Jackie Robinson. Many people may know Jackie Robinson played baseball and made history but he was way more than that. Jackie Robinson changed the world by showing people we can be strong in times of racism and hate. He also showed he was perseverent to be the first black player in Major League Baseball. He left a legacy as America’s Barrier Breaker. The early life and college life of Jackie Robinson was a very interesting time for him. Jackie was born on January 31,1919 (Diamond 6). Jackie Robinson died on October 24, 1972 because of heart problems and diabetes (Diamond 6). He was a native Georgian that won fame in many sports. In college Jackie was the highest scorer in basketball at UCLA and he had a national Junior College record of 25.6 ½ in the long jump. October 4, 1955 was Jackie's first and only World Series win (Diamond 6). Jackie was Rookie of The Year as a Dodger in 1947 (Diamond 6). He stole home plate a league record 19 times. In 1950 Jackie was cast as himself in a movie about his life story (Diamond 65). In 1949, Jackie was voted Most Valuable Player for the NL as a Dodger (Diamond 6). In 1972, that was after Jackie retired, the dodgers retired his number (Bio.com). In that same year Jackie’s wife established the Jackie Robinson Foundation (Bio.com). Jackie Robinson was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in July of 1962 (Diamond 6). Throughout Jackie decade career he made himself one of the highest paid athlete in Dodger history and he made himself one of the most exciting players of all
