This case happened on June 19, 1961. The case was about police breaking into Dollree Mapp 's home in Cleveland, Ohio without a proper search warrant. There had been information given that a suspect in a bombing case, as well as some illegal bombing equipment might be found at her home. With this information police decided to go to the house and ask permission to enter, when Mapp refused to let them in, three hours later two of the officers came back with more officers holding a piece of paper, they broke down the door. Police found nothing when they raided the house besides a suitcase full of pornographic material.
He disliked the bank so much that he moved all the money to all the state banks he created. In document J, it shows Jackson standing a the constitution which is ripped up to shreds. When you walk all over something you are taking advantage of it and abusing its power and this is what Jackson was doing to the constitution. He is holding veto papers in who hand which stands for vetoing the bank and a scepter in the other. He has a crown on his head that represents as the king because he is forgetting about the people and acting like a kink and a dictator.
Jackson had a great vision of running the country from a common man’s perspective but failed to oversee beyond this perspective and see the bigger picture. At the start of the new nation, the government was bouncing back and forth wether power should stay with the states or within the central governmetn intself. Jackson followed many of the Jefferson’s idea for government and also belived on states rights. This idea slowly began to change when one of the states, south carolina, began to threat the government of seceden from the union.
In Thomas King's "Medicine River", the main character, Will, feels distant from his family, community, and culture. His mother, Rose marries a white man who abandons her and her children, therefore losing their rights to live in the reserve. She raises her children on her own outside the reserve in a town called Medicine River. At a young age, Will begins to have unresolved emotional feelings due to his father's disappearance. In Will's early twenties he moves to Toronto and leaves his family and Medicine River.
As I mentioned in the introduction, Jackson has been written in the history book as quite the tyrant. Jackson very well did step beyond his assigned power by overruling the Supreme court and enacting the Indian Removal Act. His act of tyranny does appear to be for the general good of the people of America. Though his actions were for the good of America, this doesn’t overshadow the effects on the indian people. The most significant ethical violation was the violation of civil rights.
In the end, it is my belief that Jackson has to be looked at from a non-biased perspective. As Sellers pointed out, interpretations that Whigs and Progressives have about him are not wrong. There is just a need for more information on the topic. As Sellers pointed out at the end, the Jackson era is filled with controversy and the multiple viewpoints from historians “suggests that we are poor in the data by which our hypotheses must be
In the document “Jackson Battles the Bank”, it shows Jackson fighting off a monster, or the national bank, with a veto stick. Jackson was fighting to destroy the national bank. He wanted to do this because it favored the rich and not the common people. He was fighting for people to have equal rights. Instead of having no bank at all, he came up with the idea to create state banks which wouldn’t be as powerful as the National Bank.
One of the biggest thing that Jackson had done as a president was in 1832. Jackson vetoed a bill that would renew the second bank charter early. Jackson stated “I will kill it!”. He said this because he didn’t like the bank at all and he believed that it made the rich richer and the poor poorer. He said in his veto message “It is easy to conceive that great evils to our country and its institutions might flow from such a concentration of power in the hands of a few men irresponsible to the people.”
I would recommend this book to more advanced readers. Jackson was involved in many relationships with many people of different views. Although he tried to surround himself with his own supporters, sometimes the opponent seemed more reliable than his own people. These various relationships make the book a bit difficult to read because there is just a lot of information over his personal life, political life, and how personal affected political views. The book is in chronological order and uses reliable resources.
Another reason Jackson negatively affected the United States is that he got rid of the national bank. One reason Jackson negatively affected the United States is that he signed the indian removal act into
Coming into the courtroom I believe Jackson was a vicious president who just wanted to kill to get his way, but in the trial, I came to the consensus that Jackson isn’t always that angry old man people perceive him to be. Sure, he’s killed many people and could’ve possibly led to many more deaths, but his crimes against humanities was never fully brought to light. I believed, that prosecution proved that he was an immoral, violent and at times vicious president, but they never proved he committed a large enough crime to affect humanity. In the opening statements, prosecution called Jackson a president that failed to do his job.
Although Jackson was important, he was part of many terrible things. Around the 1820s there were many major indian tribes in eastern United States such as Cherokee, Chickasaw, Creek and Seminole. This soon came to a change. Andrew Jackson thought these Indians were in the way of eastern development, using the Indian Removal Act which the congress had approved he decided to kick them out and send them west. In 1831 the Supreme Court ruled that the Cherokee Indians had the right to self government and the United States could not interfere with that.
Jackson completely disregarded the Supreme Court's ruling “ Although the ruling was in favor of the Cherokee, Jackson manipulated a deal with some tribe members, giving them two years to relocate to Oklahoma”. All of which is evidence Jackson going outside of his jurisdiction. Jackson allowed the theft of Native Americans sovereign state “Georgia, with the support began to annex the Cherokee land; abolish their government, courts, laws; and establish a process for seizing Cherokee land distributing it to the white citizens”. Determining that Jackson was prejudice against Native Americans. The elimination of the National Bank is the final reason I am certain Jackson was a dictator.
Jackson appealed so well to many of the citizen of the United States, because he came from such a humble background and made the people believe he wanted to help everyone and use his democracy to get citizens more involved of the government. However, taking a look back in history it almost seemed that Jackson did many strategic things in order to gain more power. By closing the national bank Jackson was able to chose where the funding would be dealt out to. Moveover, when Jackson made sure South Carolina paid their tariffs in order to keep control over the country, which seemed fine until he did not get strict with Georgia. This shows Jackson wanted the expansion into the Western parts, which is one of the reason that circulates as to why Jackson did not like the national
I have lived in East Oakland my whole life. To the majority of people, the mention of East Oakland evokes thoughts of violence, shootings, and gangs. I was one of the people who believed in these stereotypes, and for a particularly long time. I was one of the people who saw Oakland as a wasteland, a place with nothing to offer me, and a place I had nothing to offer to.
