The story of “A Christmas Carol” opens with a chilly Christmas Eve, seven years after Jacob Marley, Ebenezer Scrooge’s business partner, passes away. Scrooge, the main character, dislikes the vibes of Christmas and decides to not go to his nephew’s Christmas dinner. Scrooge continues with his negative attitude as he screams at charity workers and overworks his employee, Bob Cratchit. During that night, Jacob Marley, visits him in the shape of a ghost. Marley's soul has been meandering since he chose to be with money and not with other individuals. Marley tends to warn him to change his ways as the three Christmas spirits will come to him within the next three days. The grave’s possessions were robbed and sold by people such as the local undertaker. Scrooge asks the ghost to show anyone who feels any other emotion over the man's death. The ghost shows him the happiness of a poor couple in debt to the man, being happy that the person’s death gives them more time to put their finances. Scrooge then asks to see anything else connected with any death. The ghost then shows him Bob Cratchit and his family mourning the death of Tiny Tim. The ghost then shows Scrooge the man's grave, whose tombstone says Scrooge's name. Scrooge sobs and pledges to the ghost that he will change his ways to avoid this monstrosity. Scrooge wakes up on Christmas morning as a changed man after seeing his past, present, and future. Scrooge goes to Fred’s and spends the day with him and his family. Scrooge would then send a large turkey to the Cratchits for Christmas dinner. After Christmas, he gives Cratchit an increase in his wage and becomes like another father to Tiny Tim.
