In the story “The Monkey’s Paw” begins on a stormy night and Sergeant Major Morris came to visit the White’s family.Morris told the family about his journey.Mr.White asked Morris about a “monkey’s paw”(2).Morris told them how an old fakir put a spell on it.”He wanted to show that fate ruled people's lives and those who interfered with it did so to their sorrow” (2). Jacobs short story “The Monkey’s Paw” has many connections related to the biography it says that Jacobs “family was poor, their life generally dreary.” Both the biography and story talk about how the family didn't have enough money “If you only paid off the house, you'd be quite happy, wouldn't you? Well, wish for two hundred pounds, then; that'll just do it.”(4) W.W. Jacobs spent a lot of time with his siblings at the dock. And in the monkey's paw “The three sat listening in an enthralled fashion.”(4) They respected each other and they like to spend time together. Also in his biography Jacobs said he was able to combine everyday life and gentle humor with exotic adventure and dread which he did he made “The Monkey’s Paw” it tells about a normal family who is happy with each other but then all of a sudden Sammy, their only son died he was caught in the machinery. He tells a tale of superstition and terror unfolding within a realistic which tells us readers that the family couldn’t believe their son was dead. Jacobs made this book so readers could enjoy, but this story is no ordinary story this story will take you on a journey you wouldn’t want to miss. Bill a town villager, takes out a slip with a “dark splotch.”(2) Tessie, Bill’s wife sees the slip and thinks that they didn't give him enough time to choose so she ends up getting mad. Bill tells her to be quiet but she didn't want to she didn't like the idea of his husband not getting enough time.
They tell the villagers to put the slips back into the box and they have a second drawing. This time the females are the ones who line up alphabetically and they draw a slip from the box. But this time Tessie draws the slip with the dark spot and she looks at it for a while. While she does that the other people notice that she got the slip with the dark spot. They all look at her everybody knew what to do so all the villagers get rocks that were pile up by the children.
Soon everybody had a rock in their hands and they started “stoning her to death.”(2) This shows that the village was using the lottery as a ritual and someone had to be
