In the year 1995, The New Yorker published the essay “Homemaking” by novelist and scholar Jamaica Kincaid describes the house is not only a physical structure but also has personal and emotional significance. She explains the story of how she moves into a dream house and discovers connections with the history and memories of the family. As she explores the house, she finds out the history of the previous owner and connects that within herself. Through her story, she presents the house with a sense of belongingness, connection with others, and memories. For the sake of a perfect house, people spend lots of money on the design. However, this is a waste of money. In the essay, Kincaid mentions that “My house is made of wood and it contains four bedrooms, a sleeping porch, two and a half baths, a kitchen that owns into a large area where we eat our meals, a living room, a sunroom, a room over the garage, where my husband works, and another room, across from the kitchen, where I work but home is spiritual” which shows that house design does not represent the perfect house. A Perfect house is spiritual. I also do have a plain design it consists of two bedrooms, a kitchen, and one living room but this house is perfect for me because this is the first place that I lived after coming to the United States. In the article, it is mentioned that Kincaid and her husband have quarrels regarding household chores. In the article, we see that Kincaid is the only one who does household chores which include gardening, cooking food, maintenance, and repair of the house but in the modern days, time is everything. So, it is the duty of everyone to share responsibility which brings harmony and peace to the family. While doing our household chores my husband and I always shared the responsibility so that we could spend extra remaining time together. So, the perfect house is the house where everyone in the family shares responsibility with each other and there is less
