“Counting a Legacy The Art of James Biggers”, art exhibition held at the Ponder art gallery. At Benedict College Columbia, South Carolina. James Biggers’ art work consists of symmetry, patterns, and real life influences. James Biggers was born in Gastonia, North Carolina, October 30, 1948. Biggers attended North Carolina Central University and got his bachelor degree in art in 1970. Later he earned his master’s in art at Appalachian State University in 1981. Biggers was also the feature artist for the North Carolina central university Foundation’s “art Gala 2000”. James Biggers is the artist that created the “II Double Circles”, this particular piece was created in 1995, it is an acrylic style painting. Also the title and what the actual piece appears to shows the title “II double circles” before further analyzation of the title I noticed that there were more than two circles in the piece, then I read it as if the II’s were roman numerals. The first place that I’m drawn to is the center where the green colored shapes and also all of the offset lines that give the piece an uneven appearance. The story I think is the similarities and differences in between warm and cold colors, I say that because of the Venn diagram style I see in image. My final thoughts on the “II double circles” by James Biggers is that he was successful in what he set out to do with this piece, which I think was to show how simple concepts can be visually pleasing when looking at them from different perspectives. The one dislike I have about the piece is the background I would’ve like to see how a colored background would alter the
