Stereotypes is a theme present in all four texts, Just Henry written by Michelle Magorian , I Am Malala written by Malala Yousafzai, A Street Cat Named Bob written by James Bowen and A Boy in the Striped Pyjamas written by James Bowen. The theme is shown in all these texts as characters in these books are victims of societal stereotypes, however they all manage to prove1 that the stereotypes don't apply to them. In the autobiography A Street Cat Named Bob, written by James Bowen, James is a homeless recovering drug addict, who lives on the streets of London in the 2000’s. He was the subject of verbal and physical abuse due his position, where he busks, and sells copies of the big issue to survive. Henry however still becomes friends with him as he manages to see beyond the stereotype and treat Jeffries like any other person. This connects to the Boy in the striped pyjamas as Bruno and Shmuel also become close friends despite their families firmly stating they should be enemies. Later in the book it turns out that Henry is also illegitimate prompting his Grandma to disown him, firmly stating "I'm not going anywhere near him." To which Henry replies "But I'm the same person Gran." Communicating that even though Henry has not changed and is still the same grandchild that she was once proud of, his gran can not see beyond her prejudice against illegitimate children, demonstrating the harsh effects stereotypes have on
