Letter to the Editor: James Carroll Jesus and the Modern Man Author James Carroll in the Op-Ed Jesus and the Modern Man published in November 9, 2014 on nytimes.com addresses the topic of religion and argues that Catholics do a lot when it comes to serving God and how the modern man can do to serve God. Carroll supports his claim by first pulling out all the negativity toward the Catholic Church, second by explaining the values of the Catholic Church, third by discussing about the sins of the world and how the Church cannot do anything about them, and concluding with the values and beliefs of the Catholic Church and how Catholics serve the Lord better than the other branches of Christianity. I believe that the Catholic branch in terms of Christianity is the way to go if any modern man wants to be spiritually enriched with God’s grace. Although these assumptions, which are negative towards the church, is a way of our church improving as a family. Even though many have lost trust towards the church, they are able to improve making those who stay as Catholics live life a lot easier with God’s holy grace. All the negative assumptions of the church in my opinion, are ways that keep people from believing in our Lord and are forgetting who they are talking about. We shouldn’t forget that the Son of God will never leave us, as stated in the bible, “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (New International Version, Deuteronomy 31:8). For this reason is why I still remain a Catholic and always will
