I believe that James Earl Ray is not responsible because he said that he was not at the scene of the shooting but at a gas station blocks away from the murder site, and that the gun that took the shot was James’ but gave the gun to a gun smuggler On the day April 4th, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee an important Civil rights movement leader, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated by from we think was by the hands of James Earl Ray. Ray confessing to the murder of MLK put him in prison without a trial and was sentenced with 99 years. Three days later while be in prison he said that he had been framed or look as if he was guilty and that his lawyer pushed on James earl ray to sign the confession papers so he wouldn’t be given the death penalty. James states that he had a partner in crime by the name of Raoul that was a gun smuggler and used James’ own gun to fire the bullet that allegedly killed Martin Luther King. Also, James earl ray states that during the time of the shooting he was at a gas station checking his car for a leak in the tire. The lawyer of James Earl Ray believes that it was a organized planned carried out by a group of people and made it look like Ray was in the wrong. Also that using today's technology would prove that the fatal shot was not from his gun.
