He depicted the treacherous journey across the American frontier and created many references to the recent events of the 19th and 18th century. James F. Cooper was born September 15, 1789 in Burlington, New Jersey to parents; William Cooper and Elizabeth Fenimore Cooper(1). He attended Yale University at just age 13(1). He was expelled from Yale for pranking a teacher and by (3)blowing up his fellow classmates door. After being expelled, he became a midshipman in the United States Navy until 1809 when his father was killed by a political opponent(1), he then received his father's hefty inheritance. After deciding to resign from the Navy, he moved to New York where he attempted to become a successful business owner by using his father's money(3), however, this did not succeed. Cooper later decided to become what he is most well known for, a writer. His first years of being a writer were not successful, he did not produce one book, but, in 1820, cooper published Precaution after his wife challenged him to write his …show more content…
Cooper is one of the first American writers to focus on the frontier and America itself. He created a broad variety of books ranging from America's government and war at sea to fighting the French off on the frontier.
