The Last of the Mohicans: Facts and fictions After watching the movie based on the novel by James Fenimore Cooper, The Last of the Mohicans, we can compare/contrast the novel and the movie. Also a little history aside from that of both movie and novel and find very few details that were not included. The movie and novel expressed a huge amount of intimation between a Mohican Indian and a general’s daughter. Watching the film, The Last of the Mohicans seemed to be the most helpful source in understanding information that when reading the book was hard to understand. Indians dispersing from every corner of the forest with their savagery and furious attacks. This part was also portrayed in the film as it happened, very few details opted out due to it not happening in the actual true events. The romance between Hawkeye and the colonel’s daughter were in fact made up events that made the movie interesting and more dramatic. The war between the British colonists and the French left of the Mohicans very few left since they would recruit them for war and because of that, a very rare culture far from civilization did not survive the harsh effect of war upon them. With their fantastic hunting skills as it is also described in the novel, this would allow them to grow stronger and overcome anything that could stand in their way. This was to show when war came to their village, despite their great hunter skills and great leadership, civilization was the major part that caused them to abandon their homes in search for peace and quietness. The name, “Mohican,” it has been said that it was made up name, but that it’s true Indian name was to be “The Wappinger’s.” This been said, their language has not been spoken ever since the 20th century which can only indicate that this was a real tribe. So far, in the world we live on today the remaining descendants of this marvelous tribe of strong and skilled members has now been brought to be in touch with civilization, a huge step for them.
