The Crucible is a play, written by Arthur Miller, telling the tragic story of the Witch Trials that took place in Salem, during 1692 and 1693. The Chrysalids, by John Wyndham, published in 1955, is a science fiction dystopian novel that focuses on a small community suffering the effects of a nuclear holocaust. The society of Waknuk has survived a nuclear war, but radiation has contaminated the living things outside the small community. The inhabitants of Waknuk are religious and stern and regard the disaster as the wrath of God, immediately eliminating any deviational person, plant or animal. Joseph Strorm is the main character, David's father as well as a preacher and magistrate in Waknuk. This summer I read Bridge to terabithia, it’s a book about intellectual and emotional courage. In the book, two friends create the magical land of terabithia while facing the real world. This book is mainly about intellectual and emotional courage because that is what is demonstrated in the most important scenes of the book. I think the biggest act of courage in the book is when Jesse overcame the loss of Leslie, his friend. In the quote above, Jesse is talking to his little sister and crowning her queen after Leslie died.
He followed her every word to get closer to the crown, but one: James married Anne, the crowned princess of Denmark, whereas Elizabeth wanted to choose his wife. On Elizabeth’s deathbed, she crowned James the king of England. After this James was as happy as could be, whereas the people were skeptical. Because he was Mary’s son, the Catholics thought that he would stop their persecution and side with their religion, and the Puritans thought he would side with the Catholic religion as well. Because of this, Puritans were saying that James was a corrupt, lazy, coward to try to discredit him as a ruler.

Jesus said, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me” (Luke 9:23, NKJV). This verse speaks volumes about our duties as Christian men and women. I wish it were not so, but there are many in this world who do and will not take up their cross. I cannot rightly say that I blame them, for Jesus Himself mentions in Matthew chapter 7, verse 13 that this will not be an easy undertaking. He said, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it”.
