Their have been many presidents throughout the years; some good, some not as good. Each and every one of them have their pros and cons. All though Teddy Roosevelt had many struggles to face him before coming president, I believe that Teddy Roosevelt was the best president. Not only was he smart, he was athletic, and a dedicated conservationist. Teddy Roosevelt was very intelligent.
He wanted generals that would attack and destroy the Confederate army, and at the same time be able to work together as a team. Lincoln never strayed from his duties as president, even under extreme international, military, and political pressure. Lincoln
“No president who performs his duties faithfully and conscientiously can have any leisure” (Shattan, 32). Polk's presidency (A forgotten one) has impacted America in a variety of positive ways because Polk was determined and a workaholic. President Polk, considered one of the “higher quality” presidencies has been long forgotten for no apparent reason. This man has accomplished a great deal during the four years he served this country. The 11th president of the United states impacted America positively with his exceptional leadership and diplomatic astuteness.
By the time of his election, Monroe had fulfilled many positions and offices in the United States, which proved his knowledge and loyalty the country. In the year of 1776 Monroe decided to drop out of college to join the Third Virginia Regiment. In 1778, he was appointed Lieutenant-Colonel. Two more years passed and he became a law apprentice under Governor Thomas Jefferson from 1780 until 1781. He was then elected to be a member of the Virginia House of Delegates’ Executive Council in 1782.
Herbert Hoover, the son of a Quaker blacksmith named Jesse Hoover and mother, Hulda Hoover, was a man who put others in front of himself; he liked to help others in need. He graduated from Stanford University with a degree in mining engineering which he used for many impressive accomplishments including such ideas as the Hoover Dam and working in the mining industry. Hoover had worked for Presidents Coolidge and Harding as their Secretary of Commerce. His life before presidency was dedicated to humanitarian works, one example of this work included helping to feed people in war torn countries. However, his presidency was undermined by the members of congress due to the blame of the stock market crash and the Great Depression despite his charity
Andrew Jackson during his time was considered a very patriotic politician he hated the rich, he hated the Indian, and loved the idea of slavery. It has been said that he grew up not educated and had a bad up bring but still managed to get to a high political suture. Jackson at one point was general and had a very decorated portfolio, which made sense he would become president, Andrew was most well know for “The Battle of New Orleans” where Andrew Jackson, prevented the British Army and General Edward Pakenham, from seizing New Orleans nearing the end of that war.
4 years later, only 6 states voted through legislature and the other states were used the people to elect instead. Jackson won in 1828 and again in 1832 due to his non-stop work ethic especially in campaigning. He was not done with his mission, he wanted to bring absolute control to the people. In fact in, Andrew Jackson and The Course of American Empire, it explains,” He (Jackson) proceeded from the idea that all offices - whether appointed or elected - must ultimately fall under the absolute control of the people”. Jackson was so passionate about democracy he tried to have the people control the offices in government.

Abraham Lincoln, looking back, seems like an integral person to America and its history. People today may believe that, but it was actually surprisingly difficult for Lincoln to win his reelection. There were many factors contributing to this uncertainty, one of them being his support of emancipation for slaves. According to USHistory.org, the Democratic Party was split right down the middle about their hopes for the war. Half of the democrats were extremely dead-set on ending the war with a peace treaty, and the other half wanted to continue the fight ("The Election of 1864").
Samuel Houston is an important figure in history because of his military leadership, his presidency in the Republic of Texas, and his contributions as a Senator. He was born on March 2, 1793 as the 5th child of Major Samuel Houston and Elizabeth Paxton (tshaonline.org). After Major Houston's death, Elizabeth decided to take her family to Tennessee where Sam and his siblings grew up (shalhp 96). As a curios child, Sam came across an English-speaking Cherokee while walking into the woods; he became friends with them and later lived with the Cherokees where he was named Co-lon-neh or the Raven in English (lsl 17-28). In 1813, he joined the U.S. Army and fought alongside the Cherokees and under the leadership of General Andrew Jackson in the battle

James K. Polk and the Expansionist Impulse by Sam W. Haynes Haynes’ biography of James K. Polk is a little bit different from the traditional biographical book with enumeration of important dates from life of historical figure. Instead the author takes different approach: while recounting development of Polk’s career, he looks at the Polk’s presidency through the lens of expansionism. Though he frames the 11th President as a strong adherent of aggressive territorial expansionism, Haynes also emphasises that Polk’s decisions cannot be separated from the political and social climate of his time. The author renders Polk from one side as the initiator of expansionists political moves, and from the other, as a product of contemporary social beliefs,
Firstly, one of the goals of the President Andrew Jackson was to give more power to the common person. As President Andrew Jackson wrote in his letter to Dr. Bronough, 1822. He took away the land requirements which led to many more people voting. Previously only landowners were allowed to vote therefore only favoring high-class citizens.
Andrew Jackson was one of the greatest presidents who made very difficult decisions for our country. Although his choices were not always the popular decision, he made choices that were always promoting democracy. The things that make a good democracy are: giving people a say in government, having a good leader that you can trust to make wise decisions, peace and stability between each country and other states, and having equal power in the government (checks and balances). Andrew Jackson came into office with a popular vote and great support. His supporters viewed him as a man of the people.
