In 1955 at the age of 17 he was finally accepted in to MIT. This is where he enjoyed studying mathematics and in 1958 graduated with a bachelor’s degree. Knowing he wanted to be a mathematician he advanced to obtain his Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1962 he obtained his Ph.D. at the age of 23 and went on to pursue a career. His career path led him to the Institute for Defense Analyses in Princeton. This is where he was a researcher with the Communications Research Division and worked as a code breaker. The knowledge and skills he would acquire here would help him to teach mathematics at Harvard and MIT. Eventually he created an amazing geometry center, which is one of the best in the world. He did this once he was head of the math department at Stony Brook University. Working with Shiing-Shen Chern they were able to create the Chern-Simons Invariant. This is useful for mathematics, the quantum field theory and physics. In 1975 for contributing to topology and geometry he went on to win the AMS Oswald Veblen Prize in Geometry. Having an interest in finance he stared thinking about starting up his own
