The Mirabal sisters, also known as La Mariposas, have been known throughout the Dominican Republic for participating in a major revolution against their unjust ruler, Rafael Trujillo. After years of the sisters’ hard-work, along with the others who were involved in the revolution, their work paid off when Trujillo's regime ended with his assassination. However, in order for them to have taken part in this act against Trujillo, the Mirabal sisters had to sacrifice several things from their lives, most importantly, their freedom and their relationship with their family. Many people believe that these sacrifices were not necessary because the sisters didn’t need to go to the extent where the end result would be them orphaning their children. Nonetheless,
Billie Jo struggle with a lot of things but her biggest struggle is getting away from the dust. Billie Jo friend Livie Killian is leaving Oklahoma and going to California. Billie Jo says, “And I’m wondering what kind of friend I am, wanting my feet on that road to another place, instead of Livie’s” (9). In the excerpt from the opening of The Beet Queen , Louise Endrich, portays Karl and Mary as an addition and subtraction to the town of Argus. Louise Endrich shows the role the environment plays which has an impact on how the two children are viewed through literary devices such as, imagery, her point of view, and selection of detail. Every day people are affected by the environment in which they are in. Everyone is affected differently by their surroundings just how Karl and Mary were affected differently by arriving at Argus. How people react to the situations they are put in exhibits their qualities and ability to handle tough situations.
Dr. Jekyll and Courtney Davidson would agree with the quote “We’ve all got both light and dark inside us, What matters is the part we choose to act on.” Dr. Jekyll and Davidson both are good people and they both had a share of an evil turn. Dr. Jekyll was a brilliant scientist that did a lot for his community but a dark side took over him and he chose to act on it.. Davidson had a dark side take over her when she began hazing during summer camp. So I believe that both of the characters would agree with the quote from Sirius Black from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Mattie’s path, much different from David’s would result in the same outcome of becoming an adult. Sixty-eight years before David’s era, becoming an adult had a much harder reality then he experienced. Mattie now at this point was on a journey to avenge the wrongful death of her father. With the help of the toughest U.S marshal and Ranger Mattie would soon realize that becoming an adult was not for the weak. Going into this journey she needed to understand that it would be physically hard and emotionally hard.

Were they studying? None of these explanations were why Melinda, the main character of the novel Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson was sitting alone during lunch.
“To be human is to be beautifully flawed. ”(Eric Wilson). All humans are flawed. That is what makes them human. Flaws sometimes are hurtful, but they make the character interesting.
In the book “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan, it’s about a little girl who is pressured by her mother to become something she doesn’t want to be. Jing- mei , the daughter, is forced to become a prodigy(child actress), by her mother, and she doesn’t want to be one. In the story, Jing- meis’ mother uses allusions such as Shirley Temple to push her into becoming a prodigy. Although at first Jing- mei is excited to become a prodigy, she later realizes its something she just doesn’t enjoy doing. Consequently, the uses of allusion in the story help Jing- mei discover to not be a prodigy and that what her mother wants for her is not always important.
The couple had just returned to their apartment to have dinner after visiting their daughter, Quintana, in the hospital. Quintana had been unconscious for days and was suffering from pneumonia and septic shock. Didion recalls that she was mixing the salad for dinner when she noticed her husband stop mid-sentence and slump over. Within an hour of calling the paramedics, John was pronounced dead (p. 22). Within an hour, her husband had gone from living and breathing in his living room recliner, to a death certificate marked 10:18 p.m.
Amy Tan’s “Two Kinds,” written in 1989, captures the relationship of a mother and daughter from China that has just relocated to America. So, in the beginning of the short story Tan expresses the mother’s beliefs of America by saying “my mother believed you could be anything you wanted in America” (Tan, Two Kinds, www.rtsd.org). then going into examples such as “You could open a restaurant. You could work for the government and get good retirement and of course, you can be a prodigy, too” (Tan, Two Kinds, www.rtsd.org).
Emily Grierson is from the story "A Rose for Emily"and is the main character. In a story, you usually have a protagonist which is the hero or main character of the story and also an antagonist which is pretty much the bad guy. Well in "A Rose for Emily," she is both protagonist and antagonist. Emily is qualified to be the antagonist because she murdered Homer Barron. Murder is quite a big deal and would definitely go under as being the bad guy.
