Jane Austen said this quote “A lady's imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony in a moment”(cite). It describes her well because of all her books and the way they were written. Jane Austen was a very influential romance novelist from the 18th century who based her works on her own family, the culture of the Victorian age and her own life.
Jane Austen’s family was a big influence for her writing career, with her with many siblings and parents. She had 6 brothers and an older sister. Jane’s family was included in the lower gentry class, which is the middle class in England at this time. Her father was a rector for an Anglican parish. She was a realistic author “She is an English writer, who first gave the novel its modern character through the treatment of everyday life” (ebsco article). In the 18th century inheritance was a big sociological aspect. The men always got the inheritance when someone passed away, which Jane Austen showed in her books. In the book sense and sensibility the women ended up with nothing because the males get the inheritance. Also, in pride and prejudice, the women do not inherit the fortune of their father and the cousin does. Another aspect of the 18th century that is included in Jane Austen’s books is that the women get married off to eligible bachelors or they will be alone and in the low class for the rest of their lives, which in the book pride and prejudice the mom tried to get all her daughters with a young male suitor. Also a part of the 18th century that is used in her novels is the formal gatherings, like in pride and prejudices the ball where Mr. Darcy would not dance with Elizabeth. They were best friends and told each other everything like in the book pride and prejudice the sisters Jane and Elizabeth had a strong relationship. Also in the book Elizabeth, the main character and her father have a very close relationship. Jane and her father had a very close relationship. In her books the father and main character had strong relationships as well for example in Emma, pride and prejudice. In her book Emma the education was within the family and in Jane’s life she was educated throughout her family. In her other books there are close family relationships as well like in Sense and Sensibility with the sisters Eleanor and Marianne. (in text
