Emma’s sister Isabella is married in a rich family, she too doesn’t work, she is a mother whose most of the time is spent in taking care of her child most women in the novel are busy socializing or partying but nobody really is an intellectual. Frank Churchill is a new gentleman who came to Highbury town and Emma liked him for Harriet, she is manipulative and tries to make the match but Harriet and Frank were not interested in each other, Jane Fairfax,a young,beautiful,intelligent girl also comes to the town, she does not have a rich father and Emma was fairly jealous of her because Jane got the attention of her friends for being attractive and intelligent, This also shows that Emma was comfortable with people who were inferior to her in class and were gullible enough to listen to Emma, Jane was a confident girl and she had a mind of her own, this irked Emma who liked people coming to her for advice and who followed her like her pets.Mr. Knightley, who was Emma’s friend, guides her throughout the novel and criticizes her snobbish
