Jane Eyre possesses many qualities of a modern feminist: strong opinions, growing in beliefs, and a sense of self- worth.
At her stay at Gateshead, Jane, receives constant punishment for defending herself when an injustice occurs. This portrays the tendency Jane has for voicing her opinions even if she must face harsh consequences for them. In the victorian era women were not meant to contain strong stances on injustice, so for Jane to believe so strongly in her stance, it sets her apart. Similar to the novel Fahrenheit 451 in which the main character expresses strong opinions on the burning of books and bases all of his actions off of his beliefs as Jane does.
