In history, every social movement had its prominent leader. The African American civil rights movement had Martin Luther King Jr., and the women 's suffrage movement had Susan B. Anthony. As for the LGBTQIA community, the obvious leader would be the man who spearheaded the gay rights movement other than the Stonewall Riot. Milk reached the greatest milestone for the movement by becoming the first openly gay man to hold public office. Elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977, Dan White assassinated Milk and Mayor George Moscone not even a year after Milk won the election.
“It is unthinkable that a national government which represents women should ignore the issue of the right of all women to political freedom.” The movement of Lucy Burns mainly took place in the 20th century between 1913 and 1920. Many of her rallies and protest took place in front of the White House but some in other countries like Europe where she met Alice Paul in London in a police station. It was risky, as he could be caught and forced back into slavery. He continued to speak though, and eventually became the Massachusetts and New York abolition leader.
Growing up in a Quaker home, Susan B. Anthony developed a sense of justice and moral eagerness. She was compassionate yet aggressive by nature. Anthony focused on many social issues happening at the time such as anti-slavery and women suffrage. She believed women should have equal rights to men. Susan B. Anthony contributed a significant amount to the United States.
Susan B. Anthony was born into a Quaker family, with the hope that everyone would one day be treated equal. She denied a chance to speak at a temperance convention because she was a woman(Susan B. Anthony). From this point on, she knew that she needed to make a change. Susan B. Anthony, because of her intense work involving women 's’ rights, highly influenced all of the societies and beliefs that were yet to come. She employed a huge role in our history because of the fact that she advocated for women’s rights, for the integration of women in the workforce, and for the abolition of slavery.

In the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, an African American woman named Janie makes many challenging decisions in order to be happy. This novel takes place in the 1920’s which creates many obstacles that Janie must overcome in order to achieve happiness. There are many stereotypes and inequalities during this time that make life extremely difficult for Janie. Although Janie allows others to mistreat her at points throughout the novel, she is overall an excellent role model for young readers because she overcomes several stereotypes of African American females during this time period, and she makes many difficult decisions based solely on her own happiness.
