December 7, 1941, Japan desired to move into the Dutch East Indies and Malaya to conquer territories in order to get important natural resources such as oil and rubber. Japan planned to bomb the United States so they would not interfere with Japan’s plan. The time came, Japan did a surprise attack on the United States naval base located in Pearl Harbor they planned to wipe out all of the United States battleships. Japan sent torpedo bombers, high-level bombers, and dive bombers. The United States suffered greatly from this attack they lost 2,403 people, and lost 188 planes and 8 battleships. The United States was outraged so they decided to declare war on Japan and join the WWll. Japan and United States ended up having many battles after the attack on Pearl Harbor: “Battle of Midway”, “Battle of Leyte Gulf”, and “The Battle of Okinawa.” The United States had the upper hand on Japan by winning these battles but they believed that wasn’t enough to make Japan surrender. The United States ends up dropping the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima which resulted in Japan losing hundreds of thousands of people. Japan was frail they had nothing else to fight back with but they still did not surrender.
