Jasmine with Existential
I will be using Frankl’s Existential Therapy to counsel Jasmine. This theory focuses on the attitude towards human suffering and explores morality, meaning, freedom, responsibility, anxiety, and aloneness. It aims to answer questions such as: “Who am I?” “What can I hope for?” “Where am I going?” In other words, it pushes clients to reclaim and own their own lives (as cited in Corey and Corey, 2015, chap.6).
I will help Jasmine redirect the way she perceives the events in her life. This way, she will find meaning. Since no technique really exists for this type of therapy, I plan to mirror her words in a way that helps her be more aware of the way she expresses herself. Our sessions …show more content…

Hopes for Client Through these sessions, I hope Jasmine is able to find self-worth. She has been so focused on her past riches and marriage, that she has been willing to put her own values and morals aside. It could possibly be harmful to a person’s health if they continually go against their moral/values. Also, I hope she is able to realize that she is not responsible for her husband’s actions. He brought his downfall on himself, and her step son cannot and should not blame her for his father’s death. However, I also hope that she no longer acts out of vengeance. If Jasmine is able to look past her lack of wealth, she will be able to find her worth and new identity.
5. Strengths and Limitations. According to Corey and Corey (2015), this theory lacks structure and techniques. Because of this, counselors must develop their own techniques or borrow techniques from different theories. The terms used in this theory are very vague; as a result, it becomes difficult to conduct research on the outcomes of existential therapy. However, the biggest limitation to this approach is the therapist’s lack of wide-range understanding of the human being. References
