Before Gatsby went to war he and Daisy were a couple, when he went off to war they had written each other letters but hadn’t seen each other in five years.

Scott Fitzgerald is a novel about a young man who moves to West Egg, NY, named Nick. He has an extravagant neighbor named Gasby who hosts large parties in hopes of attracting a girl Daisy who happens to be Nick's cousin.
“I'm glad it's a girl. And I hope she'll be a fool—that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool” (17). The quote above is from The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. This quote is said by Daisy Buchanan who was talking to Nick Carraway about her daughter.

In the novel, there is a lack of emphasis on Gatsby’s homicide, including the moments leading up to it. Fitzgerald mentions the firearm used in the murder shortly after the event but does not discuss the details of its acquisition and blurs the moments leading up to the homicide. The lack of detail is significant because it demonstrates Fitzgerald’s intent to pry the attention away from Gatsby’s death, instead laying it onto the other aspects of Gatsby’s character that define his life, such as his loyalty, determination, and love for Daisy.
