Shawn Corey Carter known professionally as JAY-Z is an American rapper and businessman. He is one of the best-selling musicians of all time, having sold more than 100 million records, while receiving 21 Grammy Awards for his music. His net worth is estimated at $810 million, making him the second-richest hip-hop artist in the United States. Jay Z was born in Brooklyn, New York and was raised in a housing project, Marcy Houses in Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.
After their father abandoned the family, Jay Z and his three siblings were raised by their mother. He attended Eli Whitney High School in Brooklyn and then Trenton Central High School in Trenton, New Jersey, though he did not graduate.
