Jaycee Dugard was obducted on June 10, 1991, off the street on her way to the school bus. She was held hostage for over 18 years. She was held in tents, sheds and lean-tos behind Garrido's house at 1554 Walnut Avenue in Antioch, California. Jaycee was raped repeatedly during her years of captivity, resulting in 2 daughters that were the ages of 11 and 15 when Jaycee reappeared. Jaycee would use information that she learned from TV to teach her daughters and protect them from Garrido. Jaycee was first placed in a tiny, soundproofed shed where she was left handcuffed and stripped naked. During Jaycee’s first day of being abducted, she encountered her time seeing an unclothed male body, this was when Garrido forced her to shower with him. The first week in captivity she was left handcuffed and Garrido raped her for the first time, the raping continued frequently, once a week for the first 3 years of her captivity. Around the month and a half mark, Jaycee recalls being moved to a larger room where she was handcuffed to a bed. Garrido would tell her that the demon angels brought her to help him with his sexual problems because society ignored him. He would go on what he would call “runs” where he would force Jaycee to keep him company by performing sexual acts and various activities for him. Her community had a parade for Jaycee the Sunday. After her reappearance, police officers estimated 2,000 people showed up to support her and another 500 joined the rally following the parade, most holding pink balloons or wearing pink to represent Jaycee’s favorite color, and the parade route was lined with pink ribbons wrapped around trees. Now Jaycee runs a nonprofit, the JAYC Foundation, to help with the same kind of family reunification for other trauma victims and provide safe, secluded spaces for victims to recover, with caregivers, and has a focus on animal-assisted therapy. Jaycee turned to riding and caring for horses to help her heal, which is why she has animal-assisted therapy included in her nonprofit. Jaycees story after her reappearance is similar to Room in some ways. Jaycee had children while being held just like Ma, Jaycees eyes are sensitive to sunlight just like how Jack was, Jack and one of the daughters both had connections to things that were in their rooms with them and wanted them back even after escaping and both cases got lost of publicity after the victims
