On June 10, 1991, eleven year old Jaycee Dugard was abducted strolling to class close to her home in Tahoe, California. She was pushed numerous miles away to Antioch, California, where they held her captive.That was the last Jaycees family and companions saw of her for more than 18 years. Jaycee was held hostage of the couple and compelled to persevere through sexual manhandle and detainment of the couple. Throughout her time living in a tent behind Garrido's home, Jaycee brought forth her two girls, one at fourteen years of age and one at seventeen years of age both fathered by Garrido. On August 26 ,2009, Jaycee, her girls and Phillip Garrido showed up in the office of her kidnappers probation officer in California. In early October, Crossroads Middle School received a complaint from a seventh-grade parent whose child pursued the book for elective reading after finding it on the shelves of the classroom library. On October 30, it was resolved that due to the book’s realistic nature it would not be incorporated into seventh-grade classroom libraries or offered as an option for seventh-grade elective reading.Paskewicz appreciates the positive impact that the book can have for those who themselves might be victims of abuse: “In Northview, we have some students who have very awful circumstances in life and this book may be of help to them.”Therefore, the book will keep on being incorporated into Northview Public High School classroom libraries and will be accessible for eighth-grade elective reading on a case-by-case base and after consultation with the student’s
