Jazz has a negative reputation because it was popular amongst bars, brothels and night clubs. This caused people to not accept jazz in the first place because it was connected to all these negative things. As the time went on people started to accept this form of music more and more until it became one of the most talked about forms of music. This is the other thing that I can agree with. According to Mandovi Menon “Jazz is hands down, the most hybrid form of music in the world. Drawing from the largest number of influences, including everything from African rhythms, to European Chamber Music to modern day pop elements!” Jazz had great influences on these types of music this is why I can see why people would call it “America’s Classical Music.” Mandovi Menon also noted that some of the most iconic moves to this day that originated from jazz are “Truckin', The Shimmy, The Lambeth Walk, Charleston and Black Bottom!” When I was in elementary we were taught how to do The Shimmy which we would then do for the rest of the 6 years one is in elementary school. I did not know that the Shimmy originated form jazz despite doing it form kindergarten all the way up to 5th grade in elementary school. The Shimmy was implemented into children’s songs to teach them to stay active and move their whole body even though children music is not jazz itself, but a regular children’s song which shows exactly how jazz has manipulated other forms of
