Butler’s “Jealous Husband Returns in the Form of a Parrot” is based on the reincarnation of this man into what is now a parrot who in fact is the main character. With the actual human characters having minimal speaking parts in the story, the parrot serves as an unreliable narrator. Before this second life, this parrot was a married man who lived a happy life with his wife, but something was always wrong. While married to his wife, he would always have suspicions that his wife was seeing other men, which in fact cause him to presume that he was being cheated on. He then goes to “this guy from shipping’s house” and tries to climb up a tree, but ends up falling, hitting his head, and dying. Once reincarnated, his is born into a parrot who is at a pets store. Ironically, his wife becomes his new owner once she purchases him. Their relationship from his point of view, he just wished he could be human again until his worst thought became a reality. As a parrot in a cage, he could only see as his wife would have multiple men in and out of her bedroom, but even worse, he could hear them make love each time. His wife is a beautiful woman of whom he adores her beauty but feels as if he is unworthy of her. Throughout the story, he constantly is spying on her and suspects that she is cheating on her. He then goes to a voodoo doctor who tells him to throw sheep bladder filled with goat feces and throw it over his lover roof, which will in return lead her to love him again. Sadly, he then climbs up a tree to throw the bag and ends up falling from the tree watching his wife and another man come out the house. It ironically ends with him in the hospital bed while she is expressing her love to him right at his side, either out of pity or
