One of the most instrumental researchers in the development of psychology, Jean Piaget, developed a theory that contributed to the way children perceived the world. He believed that childhood played a major role in the growth of one’s intelligence. This theory indicated that an infant’s cognitive thinking differed from that of an adult’s cognitive thinking. Piaget developed four different key stages of cognitive development, which included the sensorimotor stage, the preoperational stage, the concrete operational stage, and the formal operational stage. Through these distinct phases, Piaget was able to differentiate between the thinking patterns of a 3-year-old preschooler and a 9-year-old student. According to Piaget’s theory, the preschooler
