The entire day, I have been very excited to be able to have Monsieur Rochester present me to his wonderful friends. Now that I am dressed though I do not know what to think; I am nervous that I might make a mistake and then both Mademoiselle Jane and Monsieur Rochester will be very displeased with me. Today my dress is beautiful though; Sophie picked it out for me. My pink frock and my curls look perfect, I could not ask for anything else. My pink sash, however, is uncomfortably tight and I wish I had a flower to pin on my dress, it would make my outfit truly look amazing.
As we walk into the smaller and less formal entrance to the drawing room, holding mademoiselle’s hand, the clock strikes, shocking me. I glance up seeing that it is now eleven o’clock, well past my usual bedtime. As my eyes wander around the room I do not know whether to be excited or nervous that, finally, I can meet these people known as Monsieur Rochester’s friends. As I look around, I am soon disappointed to see all the guests sitting down at dinner in the adjacent room. The large fire in the centre of the room looks very inviting, burning silently and flickering beautiful colours of orange, red and occasional flashes of yellow. I remember Monsieur Rochester sitting with us, holding ma mère’s delicate hands, as they sung a beautiful nursery rhyme together. As I drifted off to sleep the words in the song followed me, I can still remember them now. The memories of ma mère are so faint but her soothing but sweet voice grips me, always helping me fall deep asleep in her arms. I will never forget her and this moment of feeling pure happiness; I wish I could go back to that time, to be with ma mère.
