General mills is grooming the next CEO, Jeff Harmening. A bright hard working CEO and president of several smaller divisions inside of General Mills. He has lead Big G cereals since 2007 and brought several divisions back from lost market share. The gamble comes with a CEO who he is replacing, well, he has not left. Yep, he said he’s not going anywhere yet! Well, that’s a good way to say you’re being replaced! Some of the struggles will be moving into a hostile position. With a CEO who is not ready to leave. Who is Jeff Harmening? He is the NEW President, Chief Operating Officer of General Mills. Harmening began his career at General Mills in 1994. Since that time, he has served in various marketing roles in the Betty Crocker, Yoplait USA and Big G divisions. Harmening was promoted to marketing director in 2000, and held marketing director leadership roles in Big G New Enterprises and Foodservice New Business. Prior to his marketing role with CPW, Harmening led Big G New Enterprises, where he successfully launched Berry Burst Cheerios. Before that, he served as vice president of marketing for CPW, headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland. In that role, Harmening led CPW’s marketing strategy and activity in markets worldwide. Harmening was CEO of Cereal Partners Worldwide (CPW) – General Mills’ joint venture with Nestlé. In that role he was responsible for a nearly $2 billion global cereal business, which distributes to more than 130 countries outside of North America. In this role, he is responsible for all company operations including U.S. Retail, International, Convenience Stores and Foodservice segments, Sales and Channel Development, as well as Global Supply Chain and Innovation, Technology and Quality
