In Jeff Yang’s concept of discrimination shows that it is distinctly ambiguous. Yang’s article “Harvard Lawsuit Is Not What It Seems” it shows the viewpoint of the story from his perspective along with the opposing side. There are both negative and positive sides to this lawsuit. A piece of literature that reflects on this concept is “I Have a Dream” by Martin Luther King Jr. Both literary works illustrates the different viewpoints of the authors. In “Harvard Lawsuit Is Not What It Seems” Jeff Yang expressed his thoughts on why the lawsuit is not what it seems. Jeff and Jane Dou the plaintiff at the core of the suit were second generation Asians Americans. Although, Jeff Yang didn’t have outstanding grades in school, he found out that the only reason he wasn’t denied admission was because of the Interview. He discussed his aspiration to be a writer, also the time he made a horror movie, and by talking more about his personal life the interviewers started seeing potential in him. ”I Have a Dream” we can see the concept of Discrimination as more so negative than in Yang’s article. For yang he demonstrates it as a positive outlook in which benefited him, because he was able to gain affection by speaking more about his personal life. Dr. King view of discrimination is in which the vast majority of African Americans were being targeted because of their skin color. His use of literary techniques gave us a better understanding on how Africans Americans were being treated unfairly. Correlating this to Jeff Yang’s “Harvard Lawsuit Is Not What It Seems” both texts gives a clear understanding on why Discrimination is Ambiguous.
