His first victim was Steven Hicks a hitchhiker. Jeffery Dahmer picked up Hicks and took him home to his parents' house. Dahmer proceeded to get the young man drunk and when Hicks tried to leave, Dahmer did not agree, Dahmer felt disrespected for him not wanting to be intimate with him. Dahmer killed him by “striking him in the head and strangling him with a barbell” (Biography). He dismembered the corpse of his first victim, packed the body parts in plastic bags and buried them behind his parents' home in attempt to cover his motives. Around the time of his first murder, Dahmer’s drinking became excessive resulting in him dropping out after one semester at Ohio State University. Soon after his father urged him to join the military. Dahmer enlisted in late December of 1978 and was placed in Germany, the killing stagnated but the drinking persisted, in 1981 the Army discharged Dahmer do to his uncontrollable drinking (Biography). He would loiter at the gay bars in town or the mall and would entice men with free alcohol and money if they agreed to pose for photographs (Biography). When Dahmer could get one alone, he would give them medications to inhibit functionality and would strangle them to death before having sex with the corpses. Once he was done he would dispose of the body and repeat the cycle. Like most serial killers, he would keep parts of the bodies, like the skull, as trophies as well as keep Polaroid’s of the victims so he would recreate the previous murder. It was said “he would clean much like he did with his childhood road kill collection and often refrigerated organs which he would on occasion eat.”
