Dahmer was diagnosed with several mental illnesses, he also had a history of substance abuse and alcoholism. (Jenkins, 2023). Dahmer’s parents, Lionel and Joyce, and his brother David Dahmer lived in Wisconsin until they moved to Ohio in 1968. His parents had a troubled marriage. According to Lionel, “Joyce was far from an ideal mother. She was on prescription drugs while pregnant with Jeffrey, and was mentally unstable after she gave birth to him” (Giacomazzo, 2021). Lionel would take his son (Dahmer) into the garage and dissect roadkill, and for the first time Lionel saw Dahmer show interest in something again (Murphy, 2022). Lionel and Joyce fought over the roadkill, the prescriptions, and how Lionel was never home to take care of his sons. Dahmer’s parents ended up getting divorced in 1978, and he ended up moving back to Wisconsin with his mother. As a child, Dahmer was described as quiet, solitary, and shy. He had very little to no friends and was often bullied in school, he started having sexual thoughts of men but kept it quiet from family/public. He started showing no interest in anything and started drinking for entertainment at age thirteen. He kept drinking throughout high school but that did not stop him from graduating in 1978, at eighteen years old(Jeffrey Dahmer | Crime Library | Serial Killers, n.d.). Three weeks later Dahmer killed Steven Hicks and It would be nine years before he killed again (Jenkins, 2023). His alcoholism was a big part of his life, Dahmer attended college that fall but …show more content…
He tried all sorts of techniques, such as drilling holes into their skull and injecting hydrochloric acid or boiling water into their brains. A couple of weeks into this his neighbors started complaining about the smells and weird noises coming from his room. One neighbor named Glenda Clevland had a big role in Dahmer’s story. One night 14-year-old Konerak Sinthasomphone escaped from Dahmer’s apartment naked and barely able to walk/talk. Glenda’s niece called the police and tried to get him to help, but Dahmer showed up and said that Sinthasomphone was his boyfriend. The police believed him and let Sinthasomphone die. If they would’ve done a background check they would’ve seen that Dahmer was on probation for sexually assaulting Sinthasomphone's brother in 1988. Glenda day after day called the police trying to find out what they did about the incident, along with complaining of the noises/smells coming from Dahmer’s apartment. The Police didn’t do anything about it and later were “hated” for letting a 14-year-old be brutally killed. (Murphy, 2022), (FBI Records: The Vault — Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer Part 01 of 19,
